Week 7: Acrylic Color Play - Tropical Light and Color

by Jill Austen on 02/20/15

At the end of week 7, working with tropical light and colors primarily in acrylics, here is what I know (direct quotes from my journal):

1) I've mixed a lot of colors, many of which I do not like except for the cadmium yellow medium and alizarin crimson
2) Still working on those turquoises and pinks - they are impossible colors
3) The details included in these small paintings is ridiculous
4) I seem to be complicating issues rather than simplifying
5) 2:00am is an inner critic trap!
6) I feel a great sense of achievement and growth (by not falling into that abyss)
7) In no way am I finished with these subjects, but I've enjoyed the vicarious warmth, while sub-zero winds continue to blow outside my New York studio.
